Archetype

Which recognisable face-type yours reads closest to — matched on measurements, banded by age, and scored against nothing.

Everyone already thinks in archetypes. "He has a Cowboy look." "She's a classic Ingénue." It is how people actually describe faces to each other, and it carries information that a list of forty-four ratios does not.

Archetype makes that explicit. Your measurements are matched against 35 defined face types, and you get a ranking of which ones your face reads closest to.

Age is a matching constraint, not a label

Archetypes are age-banded, and this is load-bearing rather than cosmetic.

A thirty-year-old cannot be a Prettyboy. Not because the measurements do not fit — they might fit perfectly — but because the archetype is partly defined by reading young, and a face that reads thirty does not read as that type no matter what its ratios say. Cowboy only reads from thirty up, for the same reason in the opposite direction.

So your age genuinely changes which targets you are matched against. This is one of the reasons the scan asks for it.

How to use the result

Two ways, and the second is the useful one.

As a description. It is often the first time someone has had their face named accurately, and that has real value on its own.

As a direction. A ranked match tells you what your face is already close to — and moving further toward something you nearly are is almost always a better plan than moving toward something you are not. If your top match is two points away and your fifth is twenty, the Protocol that chases the fifth is fighting your skeleton.
