The Leanmaxxing Protocol: Revealing Your Jawline

Body fat is the veil over your bone structure. The complete protocol for cutting to facial definition without wrecking your training or your mood.

Why leanness beats everything else

Your mandible, zygomatic arches, and chin already exist. For most people the single biggest visual upgrade available without a scalpel is removing the adipose layer hiding them. Facial fat sits in predictable compartments — buccal, submental, jowl — and none of them can be spot-reduced. Only total-body energy balance drains them.

The uncomfortable math: most men see clear facial definition emerge between 10–15% body fat; women between 18–23%. If you're above that, no supplement, gua sha stone, or chewing gum will out-perform a six-month cut.

The protocol

1. Set the deficit (weeks 1–2)

  • Calculate maintenance calories (bodyweight in lbs × 14–16).
  • Subtract 400–500 kcal. Aggressive cuts sacrifice muscle and sleep — both of which you need for the end result to look good.
  • Protein: 0.8–1g per lb of target bodyweight. This is non-negotiable for preserving the masseter-to-neck muscle mass that frames your face.

2. Train for the frame (ongoing)

Lifting through a cut preserves the neck, traps, and shoulder mass that make a lean face look athletic instead of gaunt. Three full-body sessions weekly is the floor. Add direct neck work twice a week — see the Methods library entry.

3. Manage water, sodium, sleep

The last 20% of facial sharpness is fluid management:

  • Consistent sodium (not low — consistent).
  • 7–9 hours of sleep; sleep debt shows up under your eyes within 48 hours.
  • Alcohol is a double hit: calories plus next-day facial edema.

4. Track with photos, not feelings

Weekly front and side photos, same lighting, same morning conditions. Log them in your Blueprint tracker — the transformation video at the end is worth the discipline.

Rate-limiting mistakes

  1. Crash dieting — you'll lose the muscle that makes leanness photogenic.
  2. Chasing water weight — fasting 'results' rebound in 72 hours.
  3. Stopping at 'better' — the jawline usually appears in the last 5 lbs most people never cut.

Re-rate your face in Mavqen every 4 weeks during a cut. Watching your Angularity pillar climb is the best adherence tool we know.
