Hard Chewing (Mastic Gum / Falim)
Grows the masseter muscle (wider lower face) — a real but modest and not universally flattering effect.
Evidence grade C
Mechanistic plausibility, small or observational studies
Mechanism
Masseter hypertrophy through resistance exercise, identical in principle to any skeletal muscle loading. No credible effect on the mandible bone itself in adults.

Ultrasound studies confirm chewing exercise thickens the masseter within months, and botox studies show the reverse. Whether that helps depends on your morphology: it widens the gonial area (good for narrow lower thirds, counterproductive for already-wide or round faces). Watch for TMJ discomfort — stop if clicking or pain develops. It will not 'forward-grow' your maxilla; that claim is cope.
