Rosemary Oil for Hair Growth
One 2015 trial found it comparable to 2% minoxidil at six months. One trial, 2% not 5%, and a huge gap between that and how TikTok cites it.
Also called: rosemary oil · rosemary water hair · natural minoxidil
Verdict — mixed
Real in part — the claim outruns what it actually does.
Evidence grade C
Mechanistic plausibility, small studies, or observational data. Suggestive, not established.
Mechanism
Proposed 5α-reductase inhibition and improved perifollicular microcirculation from carnosic acid; the mechanism is largely inferred from rodent studies rather than demonstrated in humans.

The full read
The study people cite is genuine: a randomised trial in androgenetic alopecia found rosemary oil non-inferior to 2% minoxidil at 6 months, with less scalp itching. It is a single trial, at the lower minoxidil concentration, not replicated, and the comparator most men actually use is 5%. So the honest read is 'promising, unconfirmed, probably weaker than the real thing'. It is cheap and low-risk apart from contact dermatitis from undiluted oil — dilute it in a carrier. Reasonable to add; unreasonable to substitute for a treatment with decades of RCT support.
