Adult Frenectomy for Facial Development
Legitimate for a genuine restriction affecting speech, feeding or airway. Sold in looksmaxxing circles as a route to 'finally mewing properly' — that part is unsupported.
Also called: tongue tie release · frenectomy · ankyloglossia surgery
Verdict — mixed
Real in part — the claim outruns what it actually does.
Evidence grade C
Mechanistic plausibility, small studies, or observational data. Suggestive, not established.
Mechanism
Releases a restrictive lingual frenulum so the tongue can reach the palate. In an adult with fused sutures this changes tongue mobility, not maxillary position.

Ankyloglossia is a real diagnosis with a real operation behind it, and adults with true restriction report meaningful functional gains. The forum framing — release the tie, unlock palatal posture, grow the midface — skips the part where the midface stopped growing years ago. Assess it with a speech-language pathologist and an ENT on functional grounds. If the honest answer is that your tongue is not restricted, an elective cut plus myofunctional therapy is a few hundred euros and a recovery period spent on a mechanism `mewing` already explains does not apply to adults.
