What Actually Makes a Face Attractive
Beyond "you either have it or you don't"
Attractiveness research converges on a small set of measurable drivers: averageness (closeness to the population mean shape), symmetry, sexual dimorphism (how strongly sex-typical your features are), skin quality, and youthfulness cues. Every viral "canthal tilt" or "philtrum ratio" discussion is a fragment of one of these five.
Two implications matter for you:
- Most drivers are partially trainable. Skin quality is highly controllable. Adiposity (which affects apparent averageness and dimorphism) is fully controllable. Even perceived symmetry improves with grooming and leanness.
- The weights differ by observer and context — but the top of the distribution on ANY weighting is lean, well-groomed, well-slept, and clear-skinned. The fundamentals are never wasted.
