Snail Mucin (Snail Secretion Filtrate)
A decent humectant with a handful of small, mostly industry-funded trials. Pleasant, harmless, and not doing anything a good moisturiser cannot.
Also called: snail slime · cosrx snail · snail essence
Verdict — mixed
Real in part — the claim outruns what it actually does.
Evidence grade C
Mechanistic plausibility, small studies, or observational data. Suggestive, not established.
Mechanism
Contains glycosaminoglycans, glycoproteins and allantoin — humectant and mildly soothing components whose skin effects are consistent with any well-formulated hydrator.

The trials that exist are small, short and frequently sponsored, and they show what you would expect from a humectant: improved hydration, modest smoothing, some soothing effect. That is a real if unremarkable result. Nothing supports the wound-healing or scar-fading claims at cosmetic concentrations. It layers well and is cheap in the Korean formulations that popularised it. Buy it because you like the texture, not because it is doing something structural.
